Kitchen Remodel Before & After Projects
Below are examples of kitchen remodels completed by Reier Construction, showing the transformation from original layouts to finished kitchens designed for everyday use, durability, and long-term value.
This 1948 North Tacoma home featured an outdated kitchen with an inefficient layout, aging oak cabinetry, and limited usable workspace. Mismatched windows overlooking the backyard, installed at different heights and in different sizes, added to the room's disjointed appearance. The existing peninsula restricted movement and prevented the kitchen from reaching its full potential.
Reier Construction completely transformed this kitchen with a thoughtfully redesigned layout that maximizes functionality, storage, and natural light. A spacious island with seating and a prep sink replaces the restrictive peninsula, while custom white cabinetry, elegant quartz countertops, and warm hardwood flooring create a bright, inviting space. Coordinated window placement brings balance to the room and strengthens its connection to the backyard.
Viewed from the opposite side, the original kitchen's shortcomings become even more apparent. A long wall of dated oak cabinets offered storage but lacked the organization and functionality expected in a modern kitchen. An awkward built-in desk, inconsistent cabinetry, and disconnected work areas consumed valuable floor space without contributing to an efficient kitchen layout.
The completed remodel replaces the outdated cabinetry and unused desk area with a striking wall of floor-to-ceiling custom cabinetry in a rich charcoal finish. Integrated appliances, generous pantry storage, and carefully planned organization make every inch more functional. The contrasting white island, expansive quartz countertops, and warm wood flooring bring the entire design together.
Built in 1934, this North Tacoma Tudor had a traditional galley kitchen that had seen several updates over the years. White cabinetry, dark countertops, and vinyl flooring filled the narrow space, while the original arched opening into the dining room offered a glimpse of the home's architectural character. The kitchen was ready for a more substantial renovation that would improve its function while remaining true to the style of the house.
The new kitchen brings together traditional details and modern conveniences. Soft gray cabinetry, white countertops, and brushed brass hardware provide a subtle backdrop for the professional-style range, which features a cream finish and brass accents. Above it, a custom range hood and decorative tile inset create a focal point that feels right at home in this 1934 Tudor. Hardwood flooring and updated lighting complete the space.
One of the biggest improvements was reworking the far end of the kitchen. A much larger window now overlooks the backyard, bringing in more daylight and opening up the view. Additional cabinetry and countertops wrap around the corner, making better use of an area that previously offered little practical workspace. The new window also creates a natural connection between the kitchen and the home's landscaped garden.
Looking toward the back of the original kitchen, much of the available space went unused. A small window occupied the far wall, with no built-in cabinetry or countertop beneath it. A freestanding hutch provided additional storage along the opposite wall, but the arrangement left considerable room for improvement. This view helps illustrate just how much potential existed within the kitchen's original footprint.
The opposite side of the kitchen received an equally significant update. The freestanding hutch was replaced with full-height cabinetry, creating dedicated storage and space for a built-in microwave and stainless steel refrigerator. A small recessed area provides a convenient spot for the family pets. Despite the extensive changes, the original arched doorway remains, preserving one of the home's distinctive architectural details and tying the new kitchen back to its Tudor roots.

Built in 1977, this home featured a traditional floor plan with separate kitchen, dining, and living areas. The kitchen was tucked behind the main living space, leaving the rooms feeling disconnected and limiting the flow of natural light. While the living room offered plenty of square footage and a beautiful original brick fireplace, the overall layout didn't take full advantage of the available space. The homeowners wanted a more open and inviting main floor, with a kitchen that would become the center of the home.
We transformed the once-separated rooms into a bright, spacious kitchen and living area. A large island anchors the new kitchen, complemented by white cabinetry, quartz countertops, warm wood flooring, and subtle brass accents. The new layout provides generous counter space, improved storage, and an easy connection between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. We preserved the original brick fireplace, allowing a piece of the home's 1977 character to remain while giving the surrounding space an entirely new look and feel.
